MCKAY'S TRAVEL, OUTDOORS AND PHOTOGRAPHY
Travel Blog
This is a good way for me to track and remember what I've done lately and in the past. A form of journaling. I have several reasons I blog, when I travel, when I spend time outdoors, when I enjoy any kind of experience and also when I eat/try new food.. Here are all of those posts. I usually post every month on average.

Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone was the 5th national park I have been to in the States and it was amazing. We only got to do the western half of the park as we were only there for a weekend. Overall the park was absolutely amazing and was extremely unique. We stayed in an overpriced but fun lodge the first night we got there and then set up camp for the next 2 nights in our tent. The camping was so fun and it was a great site, we found reservations at Madison Campground which is on the west side

Uinta Canyon MkII
Got the Jensen side of the family together again this year for Pioneer Day weekend. Though most people were in and out for the weekend Allie, Pepsi and I were there for 3 full days and nights. The dispersed camping up throughout the canyon always has some great spots. This is for sure one of my favorite things that happens every year, spend time sleeping in a tent, sitting around the fire and eating meals and snacks. With the Uinta River running down the canyon and right pa

Clyde, Wall, Lilly, Cliff, North Twin, Booker, Watson, Petit, Linear... Lakes.
Did a quick and easy 6 mile hike throughout the mountains and lakes in the Uinta Mountains, there were so many lake that were named and unnamed. I probably walked past 20 lakes and ponds, some bigger than others but they were all beautiful especially with the mountain peaks in the background. In Clyde Lake I saw probably 25 or so brook trout that were surfacing for the mosquitos. Unfortunately the only rod I brought was for spinning and they couldn't care less for any of t

Fifth Water Hot Springs
For the 4th of July this year, we decided to do an early morning hike to the hot springs in Spanish Fork Canyon. It was an easy 5 Mile hike round trip but it was a beautiful hike all around. Hiking along the river the whole time was pretty and it was cool as the sun finished rising. Once we got to the springs they looked packed at first but we kept up the trail and found a few more that we ended up getting all to ourselves for the better part of an hour. The pools, though a

14ers n Stuff, CO Springs
Take away from this trip, high elevation and thin air does NOT play around. Started the weekend with a quick and easy 6 mile hike but even that was pretty serious going from 9000ft to about 12000ft. Pikes Peak was next and it was a monster, it was 7 miles and 4400ft of elevation gain one way. The summit was at 14115ft and it was a crazy hike. Started the hike around 10 in shorts and a T-shirt, hours later I was bundled up in a coat, pants, and had to strap on the snowshoes.

Flaming Gorge 2023
What started out as a fishing trip turned quickly turned into a casting trip. The Green River was gorgeous but the fish were not biting on anything. Might have to use a boat next time because where we were was fished pretty hard. It was great using my new fly rod for the first time and was just great to get in the water, just wish I would have brought in a trout. Got to do a little bit of exploring at Flaming Gorge too, sitting on hundred foot cliffs and climbing through deep

Arches National Park
Spent the weekend doing plenty of walking around red rocks and looking at bunches of rock arches. We spent Friday and Saturday nights in some pretty swanky hotels (the breakfast in the one was straight fire). We hiked about 20 miles of trails all throughout the park, Allie's favorite arch was delicate and I think mine was too. We did that trail at the perfect time and didn't have many people around the arch which is uncommon. Double Arch, Turret Arch, Landscape and Double O A

Kaihalulu Red Sand Beach
This may have been my favorite place from the entire trip to Maui, the red sand against the turquoise water was incredible, we got lucky to and got it to ourselves for lots of the time. Had the chance to swim in it as well and that was awesome!

Road to Hana Waterfalls
The road to Hana is a long stretch of road along the coast, with hundreds of tight corners and nearly as many waterfalls. One of the sketchiest roads I have ever driven but it was so worth it because the scenery was absolutely stunning, coastal views and waterfalls were along the whole road, I took some pictures of a few of them but didn't even get close to capturing all of them.

Pīpīwai Trail in Haleakala
Even though we got skunked on the upper half of the national park and got completely rained out and were not able to see anything on the volcano side of things we got to visit it on the coastal section for a huge waterfall and another great trail through the jungle.

Bamboo Forest Trail
One of the coolest trails I have ever hiked, out of this world. Started off with a really dense and cool bamboo forest and moved into a series of river crossings and waterfalls and pools.

Waianapanapa State Park
The black sand beach was incredible, worth the hassle of getting permits and planning it all out. The black sand was extremely unique and more than I expected it to be, especially in contrast to the bright blue water. Would highly recommend to anyone going to Maui as a must.

I Love Tetons
Did a 8.5 mile, 3000 ft elevation gain hike to an alpine lake in the Grand Tetons National Park. It was a very hard but very worth it hike, seeing the rivers and the mountain peaks and of course the amazing lakes at the top. We also spent the night in an awesome campground. I managed to snag a site at Jenny Lake Campground which was such a good spot. I would happily stay there again and it was stunning.

Jackson Hole
Spent the day around Jackson Hole, tried some bison burgers and tasty sweets. Then we got the chance to go white water rafting. It was such a blast and we got soaked, swam a bit in the river and went through some pretty big and long rapids.

Pole Creek Caves
Did a little bit of spelunking in pole creek caves. They were extremely cool and there were so many small cavers as well as large open rooms with a water pool and some underwater caves at the end. It was pretty crazy when we were deep into the cave and shut the lights out, no once of light and it was a cool feeling. The water was freezing as well and I had to piggy back Allie across some of the small ponds.

Uinta Canyon Easter Year One
Hopefully the first of many easter campouts up the Uinta Canyon. Did some really cool river fishing and caught some pretty Brook Trout. Did some drone flying and a cold plunge in the river. Pepsi even had the chance to go on her first campout. Loved camping up the Uinta Canyon and the dispersed camping all over.

Cheslatta Falls
What a cool place, these falls are very powerful and extremely beautiful. Someone we passed on the trail was surprised we wouldn't be kayaking them with our very novice gear. Amazing hike nonetheless and a great scene.

Silver Lake Campout
Took the weekend to go up. to silver lake and camp, the road in was very rough but gladly we had the explorer to get us there. The camping itself was so cool, it was just an open meadow right by a small river and just dispersed camping and we found a really good spot. Its called Noble Campground located right by Silver Lake Flat Reservoir. Had the chance to hike up to an amazing and quite alpine lake and took a dip and some pictures.
