- First Stop - Rhodes Greece
Our first real port of call after boarding the ship. We were looking forward to this port quite a bit and it did not disappoint! This day was a mix of sight seeing and a bit of time spent on the beach. The first thing we did was go on a walk through old town Rhodes also called the Medieval City of Rhodes. Interestingly enough the streets were nearly empty and we had the place all to ourselves. We walked down some amazing streets and made our way up to the Palace of the Grand Master of the Nights which was an incredible castle. It was huge and the details were really impressive. We didn't get maybe as much time laying on the beaches this trip but in Rhodes we had a chance to visit Kallthea Springs Bay which was a rocky bay with amazing clear water and an ancient bathhouse. We spent some time lounging in the sun on the shore and I took a quick swim and snorkel in the pristine waters!
- The Cliffside Monasteries of Meteora
Meteora was a bucketlist, once in a lifetime site we got to see on our trip. The stars aligned for us to be able to do this as it was really nowhere near the coast or our cruise ship port. It took a little bit of effort to get out here but it was a beautiful 3 hour drive through the countryside of Greece. The driving in Greek cities is a completely different animal and was absolutely crazy! Once we got too the mountain range where these monasteries were located we drove straight up to them and were instantly in awe. The way these were built was incredible and to think it was done so long ago made it even crazier. They were also beautiful inside and out and the whole scene was just amazing. I also got the chance to fly the drone around a bit and take a picture or 2 and a few quick videos. Go check those out on my portfolios page! It was an incredible experience to be in a place like this that you see pictures of all over and it was just as cool or better to actually do it. Would recommend to anyone who has the chance to go! Not sure there is anything in the world that is similar to these ancient buildings clinging to the mountain tops.
- The Acropolis of Athens + Ancient Agora
On day 2 in Athens we started early in the morning in an attempt to beat the crowds to the amazing acropolis. We walked up the hill and went through the main gate which and we blown away right from the start. The ancient theaters, ruins, building and huge granite columns were incredible. The sheer size of these buildings combined with the intricate details of the carvings really were something that blew our minds. The Parthenon, Temple of Athena Nike, Erectheion and The Odeon of Herodes Atticus all stood up to their hype After the acropolis we headed down to the Ancient Agora. This was another site with ruins, archeological finds and more great temples. The Temple of Hephaestus was very well preserved and was really impressive.
- Spring Bookcliffs 2024
Seems like I have been making my way out to the bookcliffs an awful lot over the last few years. This was a last minute planned trip that the whole fam took for a weekend. We did some of what we always do, knocking branches off dead trees, walking in the sagebrush and constantly dusting ourselves off. We did find a really cool find while out looking for sheds, a winter kill 4 point buck. I also shot some tracer rounds out of my Glock and they were super fun. Saw an antelope buck and a pile of wild horses. Good little trip overall!
- Pheasant Hunting From March
A very delayed post but I thought I should put it on the site. Had a blast doing a little pheasant hunting up in Eagle Mountain area. It was super windy and even rained/snowed on us for a little while so it was a bit tricky. The group ended up with around 10 birds though (I got 4 or 5 of em). It was a lot of fun and good to do some shooting at moving targets. Even got a picture of me getting one live, of course the quality isn't good but you can see the pheasant in the air right before I drop my phone and shoulder the shotgun in the second, slowed down video.
- How 'Bout those Chiefs!
Got to check a major item off the bucket-list, got to see the KC Chiefs play in arrowhead, the 3o point win wasn't bad either. It would also be a crime not to mention the BBQ that definitely lived up to all the hype. Can't forget the low quality video
- Trip Back Home
First time taking Allie up to Canada, came up for Christmas to enjoy the bitter cold and endless dark of a northern winter. This was in December of 2018. And of course some videos of our shenanigans!
- First Solo Backpack
Got the chance to go on my own solo backpacking overnight trip. Got to do a little fishing and lots of hiking. Hiked for hours in the pitch black and that was actually pretty nerve wracking, better than hiking back down in the pouring rain though. Here are some videos of the hiking and one of the lakes.
- Red Reef Trail Hike
March in St George means perfect time to swim, we did an awesome hike through some slot canyons with enough water to swim in, I always love to look at rocks.
- Camera Ruined
Well, we did a hike to test out our camera, got a few good shots and also found out it isn't waterproof. Im really good at planning hikes for rainy weather in the dark.
- Candyland
Amazing chance to go to Canyonlands National Park, spent 4 days there by myself doing some backcountry camping and hiking. I did take my camera and have those pictures in my portfolio. Got the chance to camp in a very cool cave and hike a lot of miles.
- Mt. Pope Provincial Park
Took a day to do a not so quick and not so easy 8 mile hike up Mt. Pope, got a good workout and got to enjoy some beautiful views. Didn't take long to eat all the calories back at lil Jimmy's.
